147th General Assembly
House Bill # 409
  (Tabled in Committee)

Primary Sponsor: Walker
CoSponsors: { NONE...}
Introduced on : 06/17/2014
Long Title:AN ACT TO AMEND TITLE 16 OF THE DELAWARE CODE RELATING TO HEALTH AND SAFETY.
Synopsis of Orginal Bill:
(without Amendments)
This bill exempts substance abuse treatment facilities which are already accredited by a nationally recognized healthcare accreditation organization, such as the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations or the Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Facilities, from obtaining a license through the Delaware Division of Substance Abuse and Mental Health (“DSAMH”). This bill puts substance abuse facilities already accredited by nationally recognized health accreditation organizations in line with similarly-accredited mental health programs in Delaware, which do not require licensure through DSAMH. Exempting substance abuse treatment facilities which have national accreditation from State licensure relieves those facilities from the burden of completing a State survey which uses the same standards used by the national healthcare accreditation organizations, and also reserves State resources.
